Refit, conversion and repowering

Change the boat without changing what keeps it safe.

New engines, an extra deck, a crane, a new layout or a new role: every change to an existing boat moves its weight, stability and structure. We work out what the change does to the boat and what it needs to stay safe and approved.

We check the existing structure and stability, design the modifications — new engine foundations, reinforcements, ballast or sponsons — and prepare the drawings and calculations for class or the flag authority.

What we deliver

  • Feasibility check of the planned change
  • Updated weight and stability calculations and booklet
  • Structural modifications and new engine foundations
  • Powering check for new engines and propulsion
  • Drawings and calculations for class or flag approval

Typical inputs we need

  • Existing drawings, stability booklet and class documents
  • Description of the planned change and new equipment data
  • Recent inclining or lightship data, if available

Questions

What if the original drawings are missing?

We can work from a survey of the boat and measurements on site, then rebuild the drawings needed for the calculations.

Will a repowered boat need a new stability booklet?

Often yes, because weight and centre of gravity change. We assess it and prepare the update if required.
