Structural design and FEA

Scantlings that satisfy the rules and the weight budget.

We develop hull and superstructure scantlings to the rules your vessel is built to — class society rules such as BV, DNV or LR for ships and yachts, and ISO 12215 for small craft. Calculations are prepared for plan approval and kept consistent with the drawings.

Where rule formulas are not enough, finite element analysis shows how the structure actually carries load. We check global strength, large openings, local loads from cranes, davits, tenders and machinery, and areas where weight can be saved without losing margin.

What we deliver

  • Scantling calculations to the applicable class rules or ISO 12215
  • Global strength assessment: bending, shear and torsion
  • Local FEA for openings, discontinuities and concentrated loads
  • Weight-saving review of structural arrangement
  • Calculation report and structural input for class drawings

Typical inputs we need

  • General arrangement and hull lines
  • Structural concept or existing structural drawings
  • Material (steel, aluminium or composite) and laminate data if composite
  • Target class notation or standard, and design loads

Questions

Do you work with steel, aluminium and composites?

Yes. We prepare scantlings and FEA for steel, aluminium and composite structures, and for mixed steel–aluminium vessels.

Does the studio itself hold class approval?

No — class approves the vessel's drawings and calculations, not the design office. We prepare the package to the applicable rules and respond to class comments until approval.
