Stability analysis

Stability that is calculated, documented and approved.

Stability decides whether a vessel can be approved, loaded and operated as intended. We calculate intact and damage stability to the criteria that apply to your vessel and prepare the stability booklet the crew will use.

Good stability starts with good weight data. We set up and maintain weight and centre of gravity control through design and build, so there are no surprises at the inclining experiment. We then support the experiment and update the booklet with the lightship results.

What we deliver

  • Intact stability calculations for all loading conditions
  • Damage stability assessment to the applicable criteria
  • Stability booklet ready for class or flag review
  • Inclining experiment procedure, attendance support and evaluation
  • Weight and CoG estimate and tracking through design and build

Typical inputs we need

  • Hull lines and general arrangement
  • Tank plan with capacities, and compartment layout
  • Weight data or lightship estimate
  • Applicable stability criteria, class and flag

Questions

Can you update the stability booklet after a refit?

Yes. We assess the weight changes, advise whether a new inclining experiment is needed and revise the booklet accordingly.

Why track weight during construction?

Weight and CoG drift during build is the most common cause of stability problems. Tracking it lets you act while changes are still possible.
