CFD analysis
See the flow before you cut the steel.
Computational fluid dynamics lets you test a hull, its appendages and its propulsion layout before anything is built. We model planing and displacement hulls in calm water and predict resistance, trim, sinkage and the flow around the hull and its appendages.
The aim is a better decision, not a pretty picture. We compare hull variants, locate flow separation at brackets, shafts and stabilisers, and extract the wake field your propeller designer needs. Every run is documented, so results can be checked, repeated and compared.
What we deliver
- Resistance, trim and sinkage across the speed range
- Hull form variant comparison with ranked recommendations
- Appendage and flow analysis: brackets, shafts, rudders, stabilisers, intakes
- Nominal wake field at the propeller plane
- Technical report with method, mesh study, results and flow visualisations
Typical inputs we need
- 3D hull surface or lines plan
- Displacement, LCG and loading conditions to analyse
- Speed range and operating profile
- Appendage geometry and arrangement, where relevant
Questions
Can CFD replace towing tank tests?
For many design decisions, yes — especially comparing variants early. For final verification some projects still choose model tests; CFD then narrows the options before the tank.
Do you analyse planing hulls as well as displacement hulls?
Yes. We model planing, semi-displacement and displacement hulls, with dynamic trim and sinkage solved as part of the simulation.
