Resistance and powering
The right engine, the right propulsor, the speed you were promised.
Installed power is one of the earliest and most expensive decisions on a project. We predict resistance across the speed range and turn it into a power requirement with realistic propulsion efficiency and margins.
From there we support propulsion and engine selection: comparing propellers, waterjets and drive configurations, and matching the propulsor to the engine and gearbox. The result is a speed-power curve you can sign a contract against, and a clear view of the trade-offs.
What we deliver
- Resistance prediction across the speed range
- Speed-power curves with stated margins and assumptions
- Propulsion configuration comparison: propellers, waterjets, drives
- Engine and gearbox selection support
- Propeller or waterjet matching and powering report
Typical inputs we need
- Main dimensions, hull lines or a parent hull
- Displacement and loading conditions
- Target speeds and operating profile
- Propulsion preferences or constraints, if any
Questions
How early can you give a powering estimate?
From main dimensions and displacement we can give a first estimate. Accuracy improves as the hull form is defined; CFD can refine it further.
Can you help choose between propellers and waterjets?
Yes. We compare efficiency, weight, draught and operating profile so the choice is based on your vessel, not on habit.
